My first training assignments required me to demonstrate that I was indeed a quick study. I was expected to develop and teach on any subject with a maximum a ratio of ten to one. That is a maximum of ten hours preparation for each hour of presentation time. A four-day seminar would have two instructors. Each instructor would have his 12 hours of material ready in less than 120 hours. Usually this meant the course would be completely developed in three weeks or less. The preparation time included student handouts, tests, quizzes, and presentation materials. We did not have any computers and our materials were typed on a proportionally spaced typewriter. We sketched our own slides that were then redrawn by professional artists. |
